The two of us started playing together way back when at the King George Hotel in San Francisco, with Eric Vogler and others. Much later, we formed a band (also with Eric, plus Nate Brenner and Matt Nelson) called BlenderHead. That existed for around two years. The duo represented here started several years ago, and was an outgrowth of a semi-regular practice session aimed at strengthening our basic musicianship. During the course of these practices, it occurred to us that this duo might "work" in performance. Now we feel it appropriate to present to you this recording, which was transacted on 6/11/12 in Oakland, CA.
Our material is drawn largely from the jazz idiom (of the so-called "straight-ahead" variety), though we pepper it with our own brand of open-ended improvisation and original compositions. We feel that the voice-drums format lends itself well to such open-endedness, while forcing us to stay abreast of our respective technical particulars.
We hope you enjoy this somewhat brief but hopefully varied offering.
